With the new SpeedCycler² Analytik Jena has launched the second generation of the original SpeedCycler technology with a brand-new device even faster compared to its predecessor. Extraordinary high heating and cooling rates of up to 15°C/sec and 10°C/sec, respectively, are realized.
Only rapidPCR is capable for applications using so-called "touch and go" protocols. A whole experiment can be carried out in even less than 8 minutes. That makes the SpeedCycler² to the fastest available thermal cycler worldwide.

Ultra high performance thermal cycler
A smaller footprint, the modular design, the external control panel and, last but not least, the ultra high performance distinguishes the SpeedCycler² from his larger brother AlphaSC®. The system is ideal either as space saving single thermal cycler or as a modular system expandable to full cycler networks. It grows with the requirements of its user.
Starting with just a basis unit, which can be controlled via PC or the new external user-interface HID-Pro 320, the cycler can be expanded with additional basis units to build up complete cycler networks.
Four thermal blocks
For the SpeedCycler² four different rapidPCR blocks are offered. All blocks are made of solid sterling-silver, coated by a gold layer to protect the valuable silver block against corrosion. All thermal blocks can be quickly exchanged without any tools needed.
- 96 SP block; 96 x 0.2 ml
- 48 SPR block; 48 x 0.2 ml
- 36 LPR block, 36 x 20 µl
- 96 LPR block; 96 x 20 µl
Both, Standard-Profile-Rapid (SPR) blocks as well as the Low-Profile-Rapid (LPR) blocks are applicable to the SpeedCycler². Therefore standard PCR consumables can be used as well as the low-profile PCR consumables.
Low sample consumption
Especially the LPR format is optimized for low sample consumption and provides maximum possible performance. Sample loss and condensation are effectively prevented through the enormous high lid contact pressure, even for volumes as small as 2 µl. The Low-Profile-Rapid (LPR) blocks uses special patented, ultrathin-walled microplates or strips based on the SBS standard format contribute to a never before achieved thermal efficiency.
Through the SAC (Self-Adapting-Container) technology, the thermo-elastic walls of the sample containers adapt to the shape of the sample block like a second skin and thus, ensure rapid heat transfer into the samples. An unsurpassed thermal efficiency of over 90 percent is achieved.
Costly and often limiting chemical additives can be consciously avoided and are not necessary to perform a rapidPCR amplification. Furthermore, the higher cooling rate results in a significantly improved specificity of the PCR products compared to standard thermal cyclers.
External user-interface HID-Pro 320
The new portable user-interface HID-Pro 320 makes a PC superfluous and operations exceptionally easy. Through its extra large 5.7” touch screen no keyboard or mouse is required for operation. The Windows CE based software convince with typical Windows functions, feeling and a clearly arranged menu bar. Programs can be individually stored and sorted in directories of choice. Exchange of programs to other cyclers or export of data of executed PCR runs are not limited through an USB and LAN port. This also allows the direct connection of other basis units as well as a printer.
The build in power failure function restarts the cycler automatically. To eliminate any possible unspecific annealing the software restarts with the denaturing step of the last active cycle.
