BIOTECHNICA 2011: Development Cooperation between Analytik Jena and CyBio Bears Fruit

Jena/Hanover (Germany), October 11, 2011 − Analytik Jena AG is to present a number of new products at this year’s BIOTECHNICA, the leading European exhibition for the biotech and life sciences sector. InnuPure® C 96 for fast and fully automated nucleic acid extraction is the first products from a development cooperation between the Jena-based instruments manufacturer and its subsidiary for liquid handling products, CyBio AG. With a further cooperation product, the GenTheater for automated sample handling, both companies enter the market this fall.

"We are organizing our strategic research and development expertise across the entire Group. As such, we are bundling our skills from various segments to cover the entire product value-added chain," commented Klaus Berka, Chairman of the Analytik Jena AG Executive Board. "We are currently processing more than 40 medium to large research and development projects with numerous new products that supplement our portfolio. This will safeguard our future business development."

InnuPure® C96 is an automatic extraction robot for purification of DNA and RNA from various raw materials. On the basis of tried-and-tested magnetic particle separation, it is ideally prepared for high sample throughputs and can be adapted easily to various sample volumes. The device is used particularly in clinical and biomedical research as well as for quality control in industrial laboratories and large medical centers.

"Sample preparation based on purification of DNA or RNA from various raw materials is a standard procedure in molecular biology and medical diagnostics. The new InnuPure combines the successful liquid handling principles or our subsidiary CyBio AG with the extensive instrument portfolio of the life science area of Analytik Jena," explained Berka.

GenTheater is a highly flexible work station for handling microtitration plates. It allows automated pipetting routines to be performed easily and quickly. The platform technology makes it possible to use strips, individual vessels and glass slides in addition to microplate handling. With up to 12 freely selectable desk positions in the 96-well SBS standard format, the system can easily be adapted to any conceivable application.

This year’s BIOTECHNICA will be open from October 11 to 13 at the Exhibition Grounds in Hanover. Analytik Jena AG, together with subsidiaries Biometra GmbH, CyBio AG, AJ Innuscreen GmbH and AJ Cybertron GmbH, can be found at Stand F34 in Hall 9.

Biometra Expands TProfessional Thermocycler Line with a New Model

Goettingen/Jena (Germany), October 10, 2011 − Biometra GmbH, a Company of Analytik Jena Group, expands its product portfolio. The TProfessional Basic XL thermocycler ist the latest model of the Biometra TProfessional thermocycler line and is equipped with an anodised 96 well XL block for extra large volumes up to 100 µl.
Especially for new PCR techniques like emulsion PCR for NGS (New Generation Sequencing) or bisulfite treatment of DNA for methylation studies often large reactions volumes are needed. The TProfessional Basic XL thermocycler offers the comfort to incubate the reaction in one single tube without comprises to the temperature uniformity or the heating and cooling rates. The thermocycler is available either without or with gradient function for the optimization of PCR protocols.

Biometra Expands Portfolio with Electrophoresis and Blotting System "Eco-Line"

Goettingen/Jena (Germany), October 5, 2011 − Biometra GmbH, a Company of Analytik Jena Group, has introduced an extension of her electrophoresis portfolio with a new user-friendly line: the "Eco-Line". This new line comes with systems for polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and for tank blotting of gels in mini and maxi format. The modular design allows the execution of electrophoresis and tankblotting in the same buffer chamber. Specific electrophoresis and blotting modules care for a simple switch between applications.

Up to two gels can be casted in the mini resp. maxi Casting Stand. The glass plates with fixed glass spacers are directly placed in the frame of the electrophoresis module and ensure uniform gels without any risk of leakage.

A wide choice of combs in three different thicknesses provides the right solution for every need, even for loading of samples with multichannel pipets.

There are three different buffer chambers for electrophoresis, one even with cooling option. This chamber is particularly suited for further use with blotting. The separate available Blot Module in mini or maxi version is directly placed in the adequate buffer chamber. The assembly of the blot sandwiches and their loading into the Blot Module works very easy by a specific design and by a colour code of the cassettes. Faulty use is nearly impossible. Tankblot Eco-Mini runs up to four blotting cassettes, Tankblot Eco-Maxi up to two cassettes.

The complete line is constructed with robust and high-quality components and under attention of all safety standards. This guarantees for long-life cycle and perfect experimental results. The systems are available as "ready-to-use" sets or in modules for individual configuration. All power supplies of the Biometra portfolio are compatible with the Eco-Line.

Biometra with New Gel Documentation System "BDAdigital"

Goettingen/Jena (Germany), September 30, 2011 − Biometra GmbH, a Company of Analytik Jena Group, launches the successor of the popular BDAdigital gel documentation system in October 2011: The new system is the first system of its type in the market with digital single reflex camera. Besides the high resolution of 12.2 megapixels and the possibility to acquire colour as well as grey-scale images also the specifically adapted image acquisition software offers several benefits: With the help of the live preview camera parameters are easily optimized. For recurrent exposures the parameters can be stored as individual profiles. Then future exposures are done with "one touch". It is helpful and new that not only the autofocus can be triggered by the software but also the manual focus. Thus even gels with diffuse bands can be perfectly documented with full focus.

The following analysis of the gels with the likewise basically upgraded BioDocAnalyze analysis software is completed by automatic detections and calculations with a few mouse-clicks. In addition to the camera, bandpass filter and the software either the budget, small hood "BDA Hood" or the advanced darkhood "BDA Box" with sliding door comes with BDAdigital. A unique anti-theft protection for the attractive camera is included with every darkhood. A wide choice of UV transilluminators in different versions offer the right solution for every application. According to the respective requirements BDAdigital is available in modules for combination with existing laboratory components or as complete "plug-and-play" system including computer and printer.
