Photochemiluminescence

The method of photosensitised chemiluminescence is characterised by speed, accuracy, cost-efficiency and environment-friendliness. It allows both water and lipidsoluble substances to be examined. Unlike the use of other methods, this method is not tied to specific pH-values and temperatures. The measuring method Photochemiluminescence, allows the quantification of the antioxidative status of the organism and the degree of oxidative damage of biological substrates under various pathological conditions and under relevant types of therapy.

To determine the antioxidative capacity of lipid-soluble or water-soluble samples based on the method of chemiluminescence (PCL) , the PHOTOCHEM® was used. Other methods that would be applicable are either very expensive or only detect the degradation products of polyunsaturated fatty acids. The PCL method, however, is fast, easy to handle and it does quantify the total antioxidative capacity of the sample.

Industrial applications of this technique include the quality control of technological processes, the examination of the long-term stability of products and the screening of new antioxidative substances.

Analysis of the antioxidative capacity of both water-soluble and lipid-soluble antioxidants with the PCL method

With PHOTOCHEM®, Analytik Jena AG offers the first system solution for the quantitation of antioxidants in water-soluble and lipid-soluble systems. Due to the use of the method of photochemiluminescence, the fast photochemical excitation of radical formation is combined with sensitive luminometric detection.

Convincing benefits:

  • First instrument for the measurement of water-soluble and lipid-soluble antioxidants in a single system
  • Extremely short measuring times – < 3 minutes
  • Very high sensitivity
  • System solution for the measurement of antioxidants; instrument and standardized ready-to-use kits for different applications
  • Simple handling – sampling, measurement and rinse cycles are automatic

Application fields

PHOTOCHEM® can be used wherever free radicals appear and the antioxidative properties of substances as well as their interaction are to be quantified. PHOTOCHEM® is used in many areas of application like medicine, cosmetics, pharmacy, nutrition and food technology, chemical industry, naturopathy, agriculture and forestry.
